Discover the beauty of Austria by train
With fantastic views, beautiful alpine countryside and charming towns, Austria is a treat to explore by rail. This nine-day tour is based in the picture-perfect Tyrolean village of Uderns in the Ziller Valley, where you'll stay in the family run Hotel Standlhof, which is renowned for its friendly vibe.
Your holiday itinerary provides the ideal opportunity to soak up the romance of the railway journeys, as well as a good dose of fresh mountain air. Sit back, relax and watch the scenery roll by as you enjoy rides on the Wendelstein Rack Railway, one of Germany's four working rack railways; the 128 year-old Achensee cog railway and the Zillertal Railway.
Travel by coach or plane
Coach travel is included, along with an overnight stop in Belgium on the outward and return journeys. The next day, you will continue on to Germany, then Austria's Tyrol region, before reaching Uderns in time for dinner. You'll wake up well rested and ready to explore your spectacular surroundings by train, watching the scenery change as you roll through the Ziller Valley and experiencing the Achensee steam cog railway, the oldest of its kind in Europe.
Explore the Tyrol
You'll explore the historic town of Kufstein with its cobbled streets and fortress. You'll also stay in Uderns, as well as visiting Mayrhofen. You can choose from optional excursions and activities to suit any taste, whether you want to get closer to nature with a mountain hike, take a trip to Innsbruck or visit Krimml Waterfalls.
There is also a seven-day option with flights, flying into Innsbruck (from £869pp).
